Control Android with your Mac’s mouse and keyboard

Set up Direct USB or Wi-Fi control, choose screen edges, return to the Mac and work across Decky’s Mac desktop and Android apps.

Open Decky Display on Android and connect the paired Mac. Allow Decky in Mac Accessibility before taking control.

Step by step

  1. Open Decky Display on Android and connect it to Decky on your Mac. Pair the devices. In macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, allow Decky. Neither device needs to share its screen.
  2. For Direct USB, use a data cable; Android’s Accessibility service is not required for that input route. For Wi-Fi, first enable wireless control on Android using the steps below. Keep Decky Display visible while setting up the control session.
  3. In Decky’s Mac menu, find the Android device and choose Control. Move the mouse and type while looking at the tablet or phone itself. Press Esc twice to return to the Mac. Use End control when you want to finish the session.

What to know

This guide is for Decky on the Mac controlling the Android device in front of you. Viewing and controlling an Android screen inside Decky Display is a separate sharing workflow. Copying or pasting uses the target system’s clipboard; cross-device clipboard sync and dragging files between systems are not included.

Enable Wi-Fi control on Android

In Decky Display’s Android settings, find Allow wireless control in the screen-sharing section. Read the disclosure, choose Agree and continue, then enable Decky Display wireless control in Android’s Accessibility settings. Return to Decky Display before starting Control on the Mac. Screen capture is not required for this control session.

Wi-Fi provides a visible pointer, clicks, scrolling, navigation, text entry and supported editing shortcuts. Apps do not receive pointer hover or held keys over this route. Text and shortcut support can vary with the Android version and the focused app. Direct USB provides native mouse and keyboard input instead.

Switch at screen edges

Turn on Switch at screen edges on the device card or in Decky’s Settings → Devices → Control. For a windowed Extend desktop, the Mac’s display arrangement determines where you cross into Decky. With no desktop stream, use the remembered position or choose a Mac screen and side in Control settings.

Move toward the tablet through the corresponding Mac screen edge. Return through the tablet’s outer edge that faces a Mac screen. Crossing an edge inside Android, such as the boundary between Decky and another app, keeps control on the tablet. Held buttons or modifier keys prevent accidental crossings. If two devices use the same edge, choose another side for one.

Use the Mac desktop and Android apps together

Put Decky Display in Android split-screen or a window. Start control on the Mac, then move through the tablet workspace. Inside Decky’s Mac picture you control macOS; move into the neighboring Android app to click, scroll and type there.

Automatic entry works with a visible windowed Extend desktop or without a desktop stream. Mirror and Alone use manual control. Fullscreen display temporarily blocks whole-device control. An enabled automatic session becomes ready again when Decky returns to a window, and waits for a new crossing.

Keyboard shortcuts and returning

Press Esc twice to return to the Mac. A single Esc sends Android Home during device control. The default toggle shortcut is Control+Option+Command+K; change it in Settings → Devices → Control → Shortcut. It returns to the Mac during control and re-enters the last ready Android device afterward.

The Command key setting can make Command act like Ctrl for Android editing shortcuts. This affects input on Android, not shared clipboard contents. The right Command key can serve as Android’s Meta key in that mapping.

Keep it ready or end it

Switching to another Android app keeps an already authorized control session ready. Return to Mac releases your mouse and keyboard while leaving the session ready for re-entry. End control ends the session and turns off automatic edge switching. Android’s notification also offers End control.

A lost connection returns input to the Mac. Mac sleep or locking also releases input; automatic sessions can become ready again after waking or unlocking, but wait for a new crossing. To bring a connected Decky Display forward from the Mac, enable Open from Mac in Android’s Decky settings and grant the requested permission. Then use Open on the Mac device card. This does not wake a disconnected or force-stopped app.

If it does not work

If Control is unavailable, update both apps, check pairing and Mac Accessibility, and reopen Decky Display on Android. A fullscreen Mac desktop blocks whole-device control: put Decky in a window or stop the desktop stream. On Wi-Fi, check the enabled Accessibility service and focus an editable field before typing. If another viewer controls Android, end that control first.
