Use Decky in split-screen or a window

Put a Mac desktop beside Android apps. Set up split-screen, resize a Decky window and keep the picture, scaling and input aligned.

Loading

Connect the paired Android device and start Extend or Alone. These modes can resize the desktop to the Decky window.

Step by step

  1. Connect Decky Display on Android to Decky on your Mac over Direct USB or Wi-Fi. Start a display in Extend or Alone if you want a desktop that adapts to the Decky window.
  2. Use your Android device’s multitasking controls to put Decky Display in split-screen or a resizable window, then open the other app. On supported Samsung tablets, you can also use the tablet’s DeX workspace. The exact menu depends on your device.
  3. Move the divider or resize the window. Let the picture adjust, then continue working. Maximize Decky to return to the full tablet screen; your saved fullscreen resolution remains available.

What to know

The window belongs to Android; the desktop inside it belongs to your Mac. Extend and Alone can resize that desktop. Mirror, Room and other shared-source views fit the existing picture without changing the screen everyone else is using.

Choose split-screen or a window

Open Android’s recent-apps view or the multitasking menu provided by your tablet. Choose its split-screen or window option for Decky Display. Keep the second app beside it, or resize Decky in the tablet’s windowed workspace.

Support depends on the Android device and system version. Samsung DeX here means the workspace on the tablet itself; an external DeX monitor is a different setup.

What changes when you resize

In Extend or Alone, the available area inside Decky determines the Mac desktop’s size. The connection stays active while Decky updates the picture. Rotating or maximizing the tablet updates that area too.

Mirror, Room and shared sources keep their own dimensions. Decky fits them into the window, so unused space can remain around the picture. Resizing one viewer does not resize the source for other viewers.

Scaling and fullscreen settings

Your Native, HiDPI or supersampling preference is retained. Decky selects a supported size for the window; very small windows can need a different available scaling step. A temporary window size does not replace your saved fullscreen resolution.

The picture may briefly adjust while the desktop is resized. Active camera and microphone features keep their connection. Audio can briefly pause while its output is rebuilt, then resume.

Control both systems from the Mac

For the same Mac mouse and keyboard to operate Android apps beside Decky, start Android control on the Mac. Inside Decky’s desktop pane, input reaches macOS. Outside that pane, Android handles it in the app you select.

Use a windowed Extend desktop for automatic edge switching. Mirror and Alone use manual control. A fullscreen Mac desktop uses normal display control; put Decky back in split-screen or a window to use whole-device control. Touch and pen continue to follow the displayed picture.

If it does not work

If a split-screen or window option is missing, check whether your Android device supports it. If the picture does not adapt, update both apps and check the display mode. Touch should follow the visible picture; after a resize, wait for the new picture to settle before testing. Return to fullscreen if a very small or narrow window cannot use the selected scaling.
