Is it a subscription?

No. One purchase, two Macs, paid once. The licence does not expire, and the version you bought keeps working.

Does it need USB debugging or developer options?

Accepted Answer

No. Decky puts the tablet into accessory mode itself over IOKit. There is nothing to enable on the device and no driver to install.

Question 3

Is it on the Mac App Store?

Accepted Answer

No, and it cannot be. Decky uses private CoreGraphics to create displays and claims a USB interface, and either one is a rejection. It is sold directly, signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple.

Does it work without internet?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Everything runs over your own cable or your own local network. Your key is checked once when you first enter it on a Mac and never again, so Decky works on a plane and on a locked-down network.

Is the connection encrypted?

Accepted Answer

No, and that is worth stating rather than implying otherwise. Traffic runs over your own USB cable or your own local network and is not encrypted in transit. Treat it the way you would treat any other device on that network.

What happens when the guest pass ends?

Nothing breaks. Decky carries on with the limited version, and nothing you made goes away. One trial per Mac, so reinstalling gives you the same one back rather than a fresh one.

Which devices work?

Decky needs macOS {{macos}} or later. Decky Display runs on Android 8.0 and later, and on macOS. There is no compatibility list yet, because the direct-USB path has so far been exercised against a small number of tablets and a list would imply more testing than has happened.

How many Macs does one licence cover?

Accepted Answer

Two. A third Mac is refused when the key is entered. Moving to a new Mac takes a mail to support, who free the old one.

Do people watching a Room need to buy anything?

Never. Starting a Room is part of Decky. Joining one is free on every device.
