Create a spare desktop

Step by step

  1. Open Decky’s menu bar and find Spare desktops. Create a desktop at the size you need.
  2. Open its preview window on the Mac to see it and work with its contents. Move an app window onto it as you would onto another display.
  3. Keep it for a separate workspace, or select it as the screen to show in a Room when sharing is available.
  1. Click the Decky icon in the notification area and find Spare desktops. Choose Landscape or Portrait, then New, and pick a size: match a screen, match a device, or a standard size.
  2. Choose Open to see it in a window on the PC. Move an app window onto it as you would onto another display.
  3. Keep it as a separate workspace, or choose Share with the Room from its … menu when sharing is available.

What to know

Spare desktops do not need a connected device. They are distinct from using a device as a second monitor. Their resolution does not have to match hardware you own.

If it does not work

If a window seems lost, open the spare desktop’s preview and check Screens for its position. Move work back to another display before removing a desktop.
