A desktop with no screen behind it. Somewhere to park a build, give a headless Mac a real resolution, or lay out a window at a size you do not own. It opens in a window on the Mac, so you can see what is on it without going looking.

It appears in System Settings and the arrangement pane, Spaces work on it, and windows drag onto it like any other display.
Made the size of something you own
Pick the size off one of your own monitors, or off a tablet you have paired. A layout can be built at the exact shape it will be seen at with that tablet nowhere near you.
Choose which way up before you make it
Portrait or landscape is picked alongside the size rather than after it. A desktop built the wrong way round is one you have to make again.
Then share it with a whole room
A spare desktop is a screen like any other, so a Room can watch one. Build the desktop the room should see, put only that on it, and send it to every Mac and Android in the room.
A clean surface to present from
Your own screen stays yours: the mail, the notifications, the half-written reply in the other window. The room sees the desktop you built for it and nothing behind it.
As many as you want, at any size
A spare desktop is drawn by the Mac itself, so its size is not limited by what a connection can carry. Make one larger than any monitor you own, and make several at once.
