Hardware in the background

Keep the camera, microphone and sound running while you use Android

Start the tablet’s webcam, microphone or Mac audio in Decky Display, then open another Android app. The active features keep using the connection while Decky stays in the background. You can keep your camera in a Mac call while reading notes on the tablet.

Support: Keep Android camera, microphone and sound running in the background

A webcam while you use another app

Keep the tablet camera selected in your Mac call and switch Android to your notes or browser. The camera keeps sending its picture without Decky Display covering the tablet screen.

Your voice and the Mac’s sound

An active microphone can keep sending your voice to the Mac while Mac audio keeps playing through the tablet. Camera, microphone and sound can run together while you work in another app.

Even with the screen locked

Active camera, microphone and audio can continue when you lock the Android screen. Android screen sharing is separate: it pauses if Android ends screen capture on lock. Background behavior can depend on the device’s power settings.

The connection stays in use

Direct USB and Wi-Fi carry the active features while Decky is hidden. Reopen Decky Display to see and adjust what is running, using the same connection.

Resume after an interruption

If another Android app takes the camera, Decky waits for it to become available again and retries while your webcam remains enabled. The call may briefly lose its picture during that interruption.

Start deliberately, stop clearly

Start the features with Decky Display open. Android’s ongoing notification shows what is active and offers Stop. Switching apps keeps them running; dismissing Decky from Recents or force-stopping it ends them.
